This week I talk a little bit about when I forgot my gun, and whether or not you can control making carrying a “forgettable” routine. How do you fix it?

The trick is to have routines that verify your routines.

Before I shut the door to the house behind me every day I do a quick tap-check: Wallet, Keys. Gun, Knife, and my Keycard if I’m heading to work. Then I shut the door, and attempt to re-open to to verify its locked.

    every day.

Dude I am CONSTANTLY, getting out of my car, walking back up to the front house door, to make sure its locked, even though I just locked and double checked the fooking thing seconds before!

I’ve had my car broken into once while at work. After that experience, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving a gun in my car unless it were in a safe (I don’t have a safe for my vehicle either).

In terms of routine, there has only ever been one time that I walked out of the house and forgot my gun (there has been many occasions when I opted to leave it behind due to where I was going. My place of employment, for example). The day that I forgot it, I knew immediately what I had done when I stepped out of my car and didn’t feel my pocket pistol press into my thigh. I kind of beat myself up about it until I got back home. Now I have a double check. I pat myself down before I close my front door (check for my keys if they aren’t in my hand, wallet, cell phone, etc…). Before I climb into my car I take my phone off of my belt clip (uncomfortable to leave it on while I drive) with my left hand and pat my right hip or right pocket to make sure that I have a gun on me before I climb into the car and get going. Since implementing the double check, I haven’t left home without intended to leave my gun behind.

I don’t have the zombie feeling in the morning. I have the curse, as my wife says, of being a morning person. When my alarm goes off and I slip out of bed, I am wide awake.

    Thanks for another entertaining episode

I wouldn’t even been 100% comfortable with leaving a gun in the safe. But I have to work with what I have while I save to make it better. I am a bit more at ease about it in my parking lot because its a bit more secure than others and we have never had any incidents in it.

I generally have a double-check myself, but this Monday morning I was just OFF my game. Its the only time in 10 years, and I’ll be damned if it ever happens again.

I am usually a morning person to, its just Monday mornings that I struggle with.

Nice!!!!To me this gun reminds me of some of the Taurus Slim. It could be a mixing of the slim and the milenium line of Taurus product. It looks good though. As always I will wait for the 1st year of this model to make a decision.

10sport64, are you speaking of the Beretta Nano?

I do something similar to Weer: Checklist @ Checkpoint.

I stop at my front door (checkpoint) and run a checklist of the barebones equipment I must have on me before going to the world:
    Wallet
    Phone
    Gun
    Mags
    Knives
    Light
    Keys

Those are the basics items, I do not go outside if I cannot physically confirm they are on me by touch.
