Every Day Carry – Bodyguard 380

A recent photo by Ebbs on Instagram got me thinking: out of all the firearms I own or have owned, the Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 380 has been the one to get the most carry time. It’s all down to the extreme ease that comes with carrying a small pistol. The only time I am not actively carrying the BG380 is when I am in the office, otherwise if I have clothes on, it’s in my pocket.

That is not to say I don’t carry anything else. A lot of the time the BG380 is secondary to something else that is my primary carry for that day. Since I got the little Smith in December of 2010, it has been with me nearly every day. Others get rotated or selected based on what I am wearing and what I feel like toting around.

This reminds me, my pocket holster is worn out…

Woman Hits Bear With Shotgun

Yes, you read that right. A woman who had trouble loading a shotgun, used it as a club against a bear that was attacking her husband.

Ninnemann briefly escaped and ran to the corner of the cabin, but the bear mauled him again. Ninnemann’s wife, Marie, then found a shotgun in the cabin’s basement, but she didn’t know how to load it properly. She instead took the weapon outside the struck the bear on its head, allowing her husband to escape. The couple then backtracked into the cabin with the gun pointed at the bear.

I am of the thought that there is no point in carrying an unloaded firearm. Any firearm that can’t be carried or stored safely while loaded is a worthless firearm. These thoughts aside, kudos to Mrs. Ninnemann for her improvisation – though I’m not sure what good pointing the shotgun at the bear did being unloaded.

I’d have to say I wouldn’t buy any established manufacturer, instead I would start my own. Probably something to do with AR-15s since I am already familiar with the platform. This is of course after paying off my debts, building a house in the woods of Montana, buying a 4WD truck and a Harley.

Magpul Joins Lawsuit Against Colorado

Magpul announced today that they would be joining the lawsuit against the state of Colorado in hopes of invalidating recent gun control legislation that passed into Colorado state law.

MAGPUL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES LAWSUIT TO INVALIDATE COLORADO GUN CONTROL MEASURES

Denver, Colorado – May 17th, 2013 – Magpul Industries, an Erie, Colorado, based manufacturer of firearms accessories, announced today that it has joined 53 Colorado County Sheriffs and other plaintiffs in filing a lawsuit this morning to invalidate gun control measures recently passed by the Colorado legislature and enacted by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court and establishes that Colorado House Bill 1224 (magazine restrictions) and House Bill 1229 (universal background checks) violate the constitutional rights of lawful gun owners located in Colorado. [Read full release here]

They later stated on their Facebook page that they still intend to leave the state and are in the process of finding a place to move their operations.

Glad to see that they are sticking to their values and will be taking business to a region that is friendlier to the firearms industry and gun owners.

Local News Takes on Women with Guns

A television news outlet serving the Tucson area aired a story last night about “women flocking to guns”. The story talks a bit about training and the Flash Bang holster, but what really stuck out to me is that it points out that a Gallup poll shows that one in four women now own a gun. The article then goes on to say “but it was only a 3 day poll” and that a long-term study done by the University of Chicago shows that the number of female gun owners is much lower, at about one in ten.

Chicago you say? Seems legit. A place where people are not allowed to have firearms, and I am going to trust their study on the matter? One in ten in Chicago maybe (hoodrats gotta protect theyselves.) Then again, it was Sugarmann from the Violence Policy Center pointing out the study – it could conclude that monkeys do in fact fly, and he would twist the results to suit his needs.

At the end of the day, you don’t need any polls or studies to know that there has been an increasing number of women purchasing and using firearms. Spending any amount of time at the gun counter, range or looking at any of the new (and mostly great) firearms websites aimed at women will show you that they are becoming more and more interested. Increased competition in the ammo aisle aside, I think more female gun owners is a great thing.
